A Bad Case of the Denim Blues: Must-Have Jeans for Fall

Ask anyone about the number one wardrobe staple and chances are they’ll unanimously pick a classic pair of jeans. A great denim pant can be paired with everything from a casual, plain white tee to a snazzy pea coat for winter. Although a pair of trusty old blues is a necessity, this Fall there are six denim styles that will totally amp up your closet.

1. Super Flares

These 70s-inspired pants come with a bit of an asterisk. I’ll admit: I don’t actually own a pair of these bell bottom babies. As a vertically challenged individual, it’s really hard to find flare jeans that don’t need about 5 inches of hemming. BUT – it’s not impossible. So whether you’re 5’2″ or 6’0″, these elongate your legs like crazy and look smokin’ hot with a pair of wedges and a basic tee.

2. Playful Colors

A good pair of jeans goes perfectly with any kind of top; but sometimes it’s fun to switch the classic OOTD on its head. Try a pant in a fun color, like a dark purple or red (super hot this fall!), and keep your top simple. You can also find some great corduroy pants in fantastic colors – not technically jeans, but fashion’s objective, yeah? Color’s a really simple way to create an interesting, trendy outfit.

3. Tons of Detail

Zipper details are all the rage right now. I’ve been seeing tons of pants with pocket zippers, zippers down the ankles, or even just zippers on the front (like the ones above) for decoration. If you’re not into the edgy zipper look, details like patches, paint splatter, and studs are also super popular this season.

4. Distressed Boyfriends

THE biggest trend lately: distressing! With this style, the holier the better. Although you can find distressing on any denim style, I personally think it looks coolest on a boyfriend shape. The looser, more modest look evens out the grungy rips. Plus, you can’t go wrong with something as comfy as a boyfriend jean. Perfect cuffed with black booties and a sweater!

5.  Black Skinnies

What wardrobe is complete without black skinny jeans? Right now a lot of black jeans are as skinny and high-waisted as they can get. Black high-waisted denim is the perfect blend of chic and casual, especially with a tucked-in flowy blouse. Up the ante with black boots; you’ll look crazy streamlined and cool.

6. Light Washed

Since the 90’s, when acid-wash and bucket hats reigned supreme, we’ve strayed clear of light wash denim. Unfortunately, bucket hats are back in, but fortunately, so are light washed jeans! Whether they’re a retro acid wash or just a pale blue denim, this style is a great mix-up from the usual dark colors of fall.

Beat those denim blues with something a little more trendy this fall. I hope you got a little inspiration for your next shopping trip!
